The ongoing Gaza hospital attacks have devastated the region’s healthcare system. As Israeli airstrikes continue, many critically ill patients are now being treated outdoors or left without care. These scenes have drawn global concern and calls for immediate accountability.
Strike on Gaza Hospital: Al-Ahli Hit by Missile
On April 13, 2025, Israeli missiles hit Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City. The emergency department was destroyed, and nearby buildings were badly damaged. Although Israeli forces warned the hospital ahead of the strike, patients and staff still faced chaos and displacement.
Israel claimed the hospital was used for Hamas military operations. In contrast, Hamas denied this and called for an independent investigation. The Anglican Church, which operates the facility, condemned the attack. Additionally, Gaza health officials warned that hospital attacks like this one worsen the already critical situation.
Legal and International Response to Gaza Hospital Attacks
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said he was “deeply troubled” and reminded all parties that medical facilities are protected under international law. The World Health Organization issued a similar warning, stressing that Gaza’s health system is on the verge of total collapse. Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch labeled the strike “apparently unlawful” and urged full accountability.
Patients Receive Care in the Streets
Because of these attacks, hospitals can no longer provide safe inpatient care. Doctors now treat patients in tents, on sidewalks, or under makeshift shelters. Medical supplies, clean water, and electricity are nearly gone. As a result, many injured or sick people face dangerous delays in treatment.
Healthcare Workers and Aid Groups at Risk
Medical staff in Gaza are risking their lives daily. Several have been killed in recent weeks. Humanitarian groups, including Doctors Without Borders, say they can’t deliver aid safely. The increasing violence endangers not only patients but also those trying to help them.
Since the conflict began in October 2023, more than 50,000 Palestinians—mostly civilians—have died. The ongoing Gaza hospital attacks continue to intensify the humanitarian crisis.
